Remote means different things to different people, Stanley lake can be driven to on pavement, and Stanley itself can be reached by paved highways from three different directions so neither are what can be called remote unless being over a hundred miles from the nearest Walmart is the criteria for remote. The area behind the lake is part of the Sawtooth wilderness area but Stanley lake itself is by no means remote.

Here is link to the actual epicenter of the quake - it is north of Cape Horn and east of Bear Valley, lots of rugged country back in there. I thought it was ironic that the epicenter was located on Shake Creek. The type of country the quake epicenter was located in are not Sawtooth type mountains rather they are just typical steep western mountains with the jagged type peaks that make up the Sawtooths.
