Saw several posts here about low numbers of birds. I’m originally from north of Jetmore, and have hunted our family farm multiple times per year since the mid 1960s. Over the years, the bird numbers have fluctuated a lot.
In 2010, and 2011, we took about 120 roosters off our farm and didn’t hunt it hard.
The summer of 2012 was extremely hot and dry.
We hunted opening day in November 2012 where we had seen numerous birds and killed many the past two years. We SAW ZERO pheasants. I would not have believed it had I not been there.
The recovery has been extremely slow. I’d say that there is about 10% the population that there was pre the 2012 summer die off.
Man those were some good years around 2010. We thought we were some really good pheasant hunters then.
. The good ol’ days. I keep going back though in hopes it returns.
