.45-70 goes well with the Highwall or Sharps rifles. It excels with big chunks of lead. Such things are unkind towards light rifles. Fact of it is, light bullets and the .45-70 are an oxymoron. Fella wanting to fiddle with kinder loads in a light rifle might think about a .38-55.
