Around here, I can't see anything better for a youth than a 6.5CM or 7mm-08 if you are a handloader. If you want to make a .243 out of them, grab some 100gr 6.5mm TTSX or the 110gr 7mm version. I've seen both be great killers. Then you have the ability to "move up" as a child grows, if you ever need to. I just prefer the bigger exits and better blood trails of the typical 6.5mm and 7mm bullets when comparing them to the 6mm results. Not that the 6mm doesn't work, I just think the bigger bullets work better.
