Mine was rebarrelled and beat up wood. In 33 Winchester it was quite effective on deer. I suspect it would be good on bear and other big stuff. Mine was class of 1903. I always wished for an octagon rebarrel and this one has round. I had a marbles tang peep sight. It worked OK but I never needed it for the open sight forest and such that I hunted.
