Last steel bike I owned was a Univega Alpina ~1987. My first good mountain bike. Shortly after I bought a Klein Pinnacle (alumium) frame and swapped over the parts from the Univega and have ridden aluminum bikes ever since. Honestly the ride difference on mountain bikes with big tires is minimal.........
Not to mention Klein was a very decent bit of gear back then. There was even one in Jerry's apartment.
