Texas does have free range elk in West Texas, unlike Wyoming that has a lot of public land,it's all on large private ranches.I'd love to hunt this place, but I'm sure it's expensive and they have some really nice bulls too. http://www.sproulranch.com/hunting_2013.asp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_u1TRvNYWc
Also a lot of elk on high fenced places in Texas. They are not considered as game animals in Texas and can be hunted anytime of the year.Living in Texas,it's cheaper for me to hunt elk in Texas than it would be to go out of state to kill one.

As Bob Hagel would say"You should not use a rifle that will kill an animal when everything goes right; you should use one that will do the job when everything goes wrong."Good words of wisdom...............
