Wife's cousin by marriage is a local weatherman who has a sibling everybody here would know...a conservative Republican politico. He has to keep his politics to himself. He'd probably be national if he registered Dem and started talking about social justice around the watercooler.
And that's how it works. Those who are willing to espouse a particular ideology are promoted, and those who aren't, aren't.
I also notice that a surprising number of entertainment media celebrities have a specific ethnicity. Nepotism always works.
