The 10mm/.40 caliber Hornady XTP is an excellent deer bullet that has proven to be extremely accurate in every .45 caliber gun I've owned. I use Harvester 45/40 crush rib sabots for that bullet. It gives me a tad over 1850 fps over 100 grains of Pyrodex.

Also, just about any full bore lead bullet in weights from 350 to 500 grains, sized to .451 or .452 and shot over chargers in to 70 to 85 grain range with a felt wad between the bullet and powder give fine accuracy and knocks the snot out of deer and hogs. I've never hunted bear or elk, but if I did I would be a heavy lead bullet.

Here are two full bore bullets I use in my .45's. I get them from a guy on another muzzleloading forum who sells them at a very reasonable price and size them to either .451 or .452 as you choose.

My wife says I'm totally nuts, but I think I'm Semisane.
