My favorite 1895/1899/99 to hunt with is my 99H V1-2. It's not much to look at with it's "fruit wood" stock set and non-factory sling swivels, but it will make little tiny groups (Lyman 29 1/2) at any distance I'm likely to try to kill something. I can't hunt deer here in Ohio with it, but coyotes, pigs, groundhogs and feral dogs tread at their risk...

It's also the lightest Savage rifle I own, by a few ounces. Nothing but hills here. Not nearly as grand as yours, but just as steep!
