The bigger ones make decent tables. Especially if you cut a piece of plywood for the top. The smaller ones make nice bedside or lamp tables. If you get the ones that wire rope come on they have wooden centers. The ones that 12-2 come on have cardboard centers. Some are even plastic now. I've seen tables, stools, dog houses and shooting benches made from them. If you have a hill side on your farm they make nice rolling targets.

They are not made from treated lumber so their outdoor life is limited.

You don't have to steal them off the side of the road. They can be had for asking. Its just something else the crew has to dispose of. We used to throw them in a big scrap dumpster and unroll the auger on the boom truck and mash them up to make more room.

The huge ones like really big wire comes on are made of steel and usually require a deposit. I'm talking Hi-Line wire like 1272 and 1590 MCM.
