It is a very good hunting rifle. Factory barrel is 1-48", a compromise twist for round ball or bullet. Upgrade to a Green Mountain 1-70" ( or so) twist, and you'll have a very accurate round ball shooter. If a flintlock, the frizzen is soft. There used to be aftermarket frizzens available 20 years ago which were made of high carbon steel. They threw white hot , branched sparks that showered the pan. I bought one for my .50 cal T/C Hawken flinter ( with Green Mountain slow twist barrel). Won several matches with it, and used it one year at the New England Flintlock Championships when shooting on the Maine team (we won it something like 10 out of 13 years).

I like the Renegade for what it is: a solid hunting rifle. The .54 slow twist, round ball barrel would be my choice.
