A great wintertime hobby. I built several rods over the years but most recently I built a couple of Lamiglass 1 piece 9’ downrigger rods for my son and daughter. The blanks were 30+ years old and were old stock in the basement of a friends popular tackle shop. The same shop that when I was 11 or 12 I’d ride my bike to and buy a box of 20ga shells after school. They don’t sell ammo anymore but they’re still going strong with tackle.

Speaking of which I have another legacy blank, a 10 1/2 footer graphite, possibly a Rainshadow - not sure, which is a moocher/downrigger blank. About as noodly as a 10 1/2 MH graphite blank can be. Inspired by your post might just roll than one up!

Do you do anything centerpin? Or is that limited to the crazy Canucks? I have a couple old Alvey reels somewhere......
