I tried downloading a .300 Win Mag and it doesn't work very well. Hang fires, etc.

Some sucess downloading the .338 Win Mag and SR-4759

I dunno... I'm not familiar with the Weatherby, but I've been looking at a similar project for a .338 Win Mag:

.338WM, Hornady 250 BTHP @ circa 2600 FPS, 62.0-grain charge weight*, 9½-lb rifle, recoil energy = 30.77 ft/lbs
(* several similar candidate load predictions from QuickLoad)

.338WM, Barnes 160 TTSX @ circa 2165 FPS, 69.8-grain charge weight*, 9½-lb rifle, recoil energy = 16.14 ft/lbs
* IMR 8133 Enduron, 100% fill/load ratio (prediction from QuickLoad)

These bullets/loads were just picked out of a hat to illustrate potential recoil differences. Notwithstanding your experience and given a decent fill/load ratio with likely powders and appropriate primers, ignition shouldn't be all that much of a problem.
