The Australian Media is left orientated and only reports on gun deaths and gun crime. It would never report on an instance in the US where guns were used to prevent a crime or stop a crook. The majority of the public here would never get the real story.
Australian handgun laws are very strict. You must belong to a club and attend a minimun number of events a year. The guns and amunition must always be in seperate locked safes unless at the pistal club. It is illegal to use handguns for hunting or any other purpose.
The instance where the bloke was charged for shooting through a door at attackers was in Victoria where you have to prove only resenable force was used and the gun was unregestered and posably shortened. It was part of a bikie war.
Someone asked when a handgun could have prevented crimes in Australia. How about the Port Arthur massacure where 35 peolle were killed by one person. There were hundreds there and nobdy had a gun. (Not even the acused killer as one of his guns lacked a fireing pin and the other had an exploded breach which would have injured the shooter and Briant had no coresponding injuries. Lucky for them they got a confesion from a mentaly disabled man with no legal reprersentaion present as they would have had trouble explaining that in court.)For those who like a good conspiracy like me there are plenty more coindinces in the event which led to our curent gun laws.
