Basically five choices.
1) Dig it out with a backhoe and backfill it.
2) Grind it.
3) Dig a hole to the bottom and try to rocket stove it. Google rocket stove.
4) Dig around and cut off the roots with an axe and spend another week trying to pull it out with a truck.
5) Live with it.
Local Forester gave me some advice on how to make a stump rot faster. As soon as the tree is cut, spray the raw stump with Round-up. It shocks the root system and the tree gives up immediately. Probably knock a year or two off the rotting process.
