The Irish have buttermilk on their steel-cut oatmeal, and it's pretty darn good. I indulge myself in some buttermilk once in a while as a treat. Buttermilk is like so many other things that seem just plain awful the first time you try them, but if you get to a second try, turn out to be enjoyable. By your third time, you're almost hooked.

Never heard of the salt and pepper thing; I drink mine straight. One important tip: rinse the glass immediately or buttermilk will pit the glass.
