But the right to travel freely is a basic right. Also remember that it used to be held that the state wasn't going to get involved in traffic laws because it got between the right of drivers to work things out for themselves. Of course, we've gone a long way down that road. However, even driving was a right at one point. We abrogated that right when we accepted traffic laws.

John Locke's theory was one of the underpinnings of Jefferson's Declaration of Independence.

Remember this as well: Anything that is a right is a God-given right. All our Constitution does is the guarantee that certain of those rights (speech, worship, political affiliation, and the right to keep and bear arms, etc.) will not be infringed. That document neither gives nor takes rights.

BTW: That comes from Locke as well.
