I’m working on the original wood stock of a 1980 vintage M700 BDL that my uncle gave me. I have a synthetic stock it now wears but I want the original wood stock refurbished as best I can. I have the original varnish stripped off and a hand rubbed oil finish on it. So far so good. At some point the black fore end tip got slightly melted by it being leaned on a warm wood stove. The white spacer and black tip is slightly melted and I’m looking for best advice on how to fix it. I’m thinking of sanding it, filling it and painting it to its original shape and size. What do you all suggest for filling and paint?

Keep your powder dry and stay frosty my friends.
