My favorite was a recon jarhead who had done 6 deployments in war zones and had collected quite a few scars. The bigger scars had a tat w/ the date and location of the wounds origin.
Well that sounds kind of practical. When he is old he won't get his stories all messed up. It could be embarrassing without the guide book.
