The gold standard in Central and South America is Taurus 92 series, USA Ruger P series and in EU Makarov or 9mm TT from Serbia or China (TT is fmj proposition). Reasons are affordable price and reliable performance. For example, last time I checked Russian Makarov cost 150 to 200usd.
