There used to be a rendering plant in the south end of Columbus. They had a carcass pit where they threw the hides of dead cows and other livestock. A couple of workers were down in the pit for some reason and got overcome by methane gas. Two Columbus Firefighters were also overcome trying to rescue them. I can't remember exactly as it was the late 70's to early 80's, but I'm pretty sure all of them died. It was pretty sad.
