Sorry, but the 8x57 cartridge used by German forces in WWII was not interchangeable with U.S. 30/06 cartridge. The most telling is the German round is .323" in diameter while the 30/06 is .308". That .015" difference is rather dramatic and would likely lead to some over pressure situations.

One can load the 8x57 round in a 30/06 chamber but the above mentioned differences in bullet diameter is going to create some problems.

Or you may be thinking of the Finnish 7.62x53R round which is the same as the Russian 7.62x54R. Or the British 303 and the Japanese 7.7x58 Rimmed which are also one and the same.
