In 1985 Cruise was a middle of the road actor, had starred in five or six movies. I recall, one of them he was a high school football player in Pennsylvania. Believable role, as I was also a high school football player.
Top Gun was released in 1986, and Tom was superstar! He was just great as a bad ass military pilot and he was off and running.
I don't care about his wacko Scientology beliefs I am not looking to Tom for religious instruction. He was a great actor in this role. Looking forward to the new movie, when I can see it for free.
Plus at age 50 he was a wealthy actor, doing some very dangerous stunts. Go get 'em, Tom!
