Fannin County, Texas -- Fannin County is happy to welcome new residents every day and that is especially true for the latest group that showed up Tuesday, June 7 -- dozens of very large channel catfish.

This week the Inland Fisheries Denison District - Texas Parks and Wildlife released 67 retired brood catfish into Bois d’Arc Lake. The fish ranged in size from 5 to 20 pounds. They were transferred from A. E. Wood State Fish Hatchery in San Marcos, Texas. The fish are not expected to spawn this year, as the season has already passed.

Inland Fisheries also released 160 Florida bass retired brooders ranging from 4 to 5 pounds into Coffee Mill Lake and 80 retirees into Lake Crockett.

In other news, the Inland Fisheries Denison District has received a $250,000 grant for fishing structures in the new Lake Ralph Hall. Structures will include spider humps, reef balls, gravel spawning beds, button brush trees, and a coastal style jetty.
