Second by second, foot by foot, they refuted his testimony.

Recall 10-15 years ago the guy who invented PGP Pretty Good Privacy got several years of grief from the three letter agencies because he would not give them the algorithm. IIRC, he finally prevailed. But life was miserable for a significant period of time.
