Ah yes, the super collider that was to dwarf the Hadron LHC because everyone is bigger in TX! I sat in on a few of their presentations back in the early 90’s as one of the Engineering department reps for my University. Like every government project, the actual construction costs far exceeded the estimates and, back when we had a bit of occasional fiscal responsibility, Congress nixed it. The theoretical physicists are still pissing and moaning about that! The first law of physics: lost research grant possibilities can never be recovered.
