Fair points. I wouldn't try to make a 1/2 ton into a 3/4 ton, but having 450-500lbs of torque at 2,000 to 3,000rpm is nice in a 1/2 ton. When you are towing or working it a bit, power does feel more like a early-gen turbo diesel than a small-displacement V8 that you used to find in nearly every typical half ton. You don't have to wind it out to make it work, which is nice.
