There are those who feel the rear of the receiver distracting or the clacking and pogo stick sound of the action bothersome but I grew up with the A-5 being the Holy Grail of shotguns so I don't notice it. I find the spring noise of an AR-15 to be more of an issue which isn't much.
I have a Japanese A-5 and I find it not as enjoyable or easy to shoot as some of my other guns. Which is a shame since they are pretty and interesting guns. Though personally I dislike shooting AR-15/AR-10 pattern guns and I think woodmaster81 is right about it being the spring noise. I would try to shoot one before buying one as they are funky. If not buy one just to see as they are cool interesting gun and they work just as well as something more modern.
