Absolutely understand the size and how cumbersome they can be. A red dot is a good idea. For my uses, I don't need a scope. And I'm at the point in life where if a deer gets away, so be it. I hunt in pretty good deer country and I've killed 2 or 3 a year for over 20 years. It would be a way to keep hunting fun and interesting for me.
