Years ago when I first started buying JC Higgins, you could pick them up for 225 - 250. I’ve had about 6 or 7 over the years and most have been great shooters. A 270 was a legitimate 1/2” rifle at a 100 yards.
I still have one in the safe. Haven’t done anything with it, use a Model 70 in 30-06 for everything now days. I picked it up for I think 350 with a Leupold 4x scope on it. Can’t remember exact price. Back then with a trigger swap they were, and still are a great hunting rifle. I prefer a different safety also. The one that comes on them is to loud for my tastes.
