Back about half way through my working career I was "given" a position that basically was more or less and audit/control type function - which if I was doing my job, unfortunately meant that I ended up saying 'no' a lot more than 'yes' - after about a year in the job, my name came up in an meeting of the executive staff (group managers, VP's etc.) and a manager said, "I've about had it with PMH - he's a GD son-of-a-bitch." To which my boss's boss replied, "Yeah, but he's OUR son-of-a-bitch." I always felt that was the best thing anyone ever said about me smile
