Thomas Oldham got off the boat in Philadelphia in 1754.
His son set up and operated the first saw mill in Bedford County, and killed wolves for the bounty.
I don’t know that any Oldham of my clan owned slaves, but I do know that there are several Quakers in the mix. Quakers were among the first abolitionist, so based on the information I know, I’d say not.
I did have an ancestor who fought in the Civil War with the Pennsylvania “Bucktails”!
My cousin in Ogeltown, Somerset County traced this stuff back years ago.
It’s pretty interesting. I guess there’s a little Delaware Indian blood as well.
