I suspect the trainer gave the hand signal and was just a bit late with the whistle. Looks like a good place to train. I agree that steadiness is job 1 for the trainer. The desire to retrieve comes in the dog. Channeling it is our job.
Yep. This was pre-school with hand signals with her. I sit her in the field with dummies to her right, left and center field. It’s baseball and she’s on the pitcher’s mound.

In the video, I get her attention and give her a slow hand signal before the whistle and voice command. She saw the hand signal and broke before the whistle. I hit it as soon as possible seeing her break. She was just learning and was excited, having fun.
I want training to be fun for both of us, so corrections usually are just withholding praise. She has responded well to this
