I have made radial brakes (like the KDF), slotted brakes, integral brakes, brakes which could be deactivated, timed brakes, and muffled brakes. For simplicity of manufacture and installation, the KDF is best but a brake which vents to the side and up is more usable in the field. I've been making and installing brakes for almost forty years but I have never put one on one of my own rifles. The most effective brakes are not usually the most attractive; there is always a bit of a trade-off. GD
