Topcat,

I thought so too until I played with a friend's Savage rifle in 22/6mm Improved. By golly its a lot of fun to varmint with those big/long 80 grainers @3600 fps.

I was impressed with the accuracy too and barrel life of around 2500 rounds plus relatiev lack of recoil. So impressed I ordered a Savage 10FP .223 with the Choate stock and it will just be a rechambering and a change of magazine, follower & bolt head! So pretty cost effective too.

The std Savage 223 barrel has a 1:9 twist & that is enough for up to 80 grainers.

Regards,
JohnT
