We would either use dogs and knife if we needed the pig then and there
I ended up getting a place on the Big Island in Kona a while back. Going up North and talking to some of the locals about how they pig hunt was enlightening. We compared some scars, as I tried the spear/knife thing in Panama with mixed results.....as in the pig mixed it up with me.
I can't imagine going in with a knife for the throat even if the dogs are hounding it.
