Indy,

Just to get back to you on the verse you quoted from Luke --

Luke 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

John 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.
John 21:23 Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?

In the portion in John 21 above, you see an expansion of the verse in Luke. It talks about another portion of scripture written in Revelation which I'll post below.

Revelation 1:9 I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ.

John, the one of whom the Lord said in John 21, "If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?" This same John was was a companion in the kingdom when he wrote Revelation in 92-96 AD. God opens the eyes of the Apostle John and he says he was in the Spirit on the Lord's day.

In this area, and most others, the day of the Lord and the Lord's day are not a reference to Sunday, but to the day of the second coming, when Jesus Christ returns to the Earth to set up his earthly, Davidic, Palestinian, Israeli, Jewish kingdom. Rev 1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day

The person that speaks to John in the next several verses is identified as Jesus Christ - the first and the last, etc.

In Rev 1:19 it says -- " Write the things which thou hast seen , and the things which are , and the things which shall be hereafter ;"

Jesus tells John to write about what was behind the day of the Lord -- the tribulation -- right before the second coming, and he tells him to write about the second coming - the present - the Lord's day, and he tells him to write about the things to which shall be hereafter -- after the second coming -- after the Lord's day -- after the second coming.

SO -- it actual fact, John did tarry until he saw the coming of the Kingdom when he was caught ahead in time in Revelation 1. No mistake if you believe every word and apply the principle of Isaiah 28:9 - 13.

Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10 For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

Bible doctrine requires a careful search and study of line upon line - precept upon precept, and it is not for breast fed Christians. It is for those who by reason of use of the word of God have turned over to strong meat and had their senses exercised to discern good and evil. (Hebrews 5:12-14)

Isaiah 29:12 To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

This rest is the rest spoken of in Hebrews as well as Matthew 11:29 -- rest unto your souls. In the Jewish sense, it will be after the second coming -- when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord. (Acts 3:19) The refreshing is spoken of in Isaiah 29:12 quoted above.

It then depends on what you do with the word of God -- receive it and submit to it, or reject it and criticize it. Your choice, but I have a suggestion for you. Take a wild guess which one?

13 But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.

The folks in verse 13 that fell backwards are the ones that rejected the word.

Now, back on point of the verse in Luke 9.

Jesus said some would not taste of death until they SEE the kingdom of God. John SAW it in Revelation. The kingdom wasn't promised to happen in his lifetime, just that he would SEE it. He SAW it.

Look in Acts 1, which is Jesus Christ speaking to his disciples just before he leaves the earth for heaven.

Acts 1:6 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

The disciples asked Jesus if he was going to restore the Kingdom to Israel "at this time". He told them it was not for them to know the times or the season etc.

He then commands them to be witnesses starting in Jerusalem, and then going throughout the whole world. That's our job today -- to witness for Jesus Christ.

In verse 11 it is told the men that this same Jesus will so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven. When he comes back to establish his kingdom -- that earthly Davidic, Jewish, kingdom (Luke 1:32-33) -- which John SAW in Revelation 1, like Jesus promised in Luke 9 and John 21, he will come back to the mount of Olives (Zechariah 14:4).

No mistakes, Indy! Just a lack of trust in the word and the Lord. And I say that not as a poke in the ribs, but as an encouragement to "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed; rightly dividing the word of truth." (2 Tim 2:15) It has to be divided because there are divisions in it. That's how you get the precept upon precept, line upon line thing going. It has to be RIGHTLY divided, because there is a wrong way to do it.

ANyway, my friend. You are welcome here. We might get a little rough on each other, and a little rough on you too. It is not done in hate (usually )

The Bible says, "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend." (Proverbs 27:17) Stick around, Friend, and let's keep each other sharp.

Man, I'm long winded! But so are you . . . . . . .

"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." (Prov 4:23)
