The Sierra has a spotty reputation on game. Sierra told me, in a phone call, that is was too "hard" for .358 velocities; that tells me it's iffy for a Whelen since they are pretty close. Great practice bullet though!
I've had great luck with the 225-Partition on deer. With your longer magazine and more powder behind it I'd run the 250-gn Partition all the way.
