I use covers so I can use regular cold weather gear underneath. I find that it allows me to mix and match depending on snow load and weather. All of it is cheap cotton stuff.
Ditto on all but the cotton. Here in British Columbia temps can go from super cold to mild on one hunt, and I sweat if I have on heavy cold weather clothes and have to walk more than a few yards to a stand. I use the lightest, thinnnest outer layer possible and layer as needed for warmth under that. My current snow camo is cheap Gamehide jacket and pants, a couple of sizes too big to go over warm clothes easily. I avoid cotton because it soaks up water and doesn't dry.
