Not really. It burns around 25% more powder for a gain of a mere 7% in velocity for any given bullet as used in the .257 Roberts.
Brick, what do account for the small gain in velocity with such a greater powder burn?
Limited bearing surface. There's only so much additional velocity that can be had for a given bore diameter.


In layman's terms, with respect to expanding gases as the powder burns, would a longer or shorter barrel affect the performance of either cartridge over the other?
