I would try at least 2 different distances to confirm drop data, but more is better. More data always leads to more precise info (assuming it's good data!).
It's like trying to align a straight line in geometry. Pretty hard to get a line perfectly straight if you have only one point to go through. If you have two points of reference, it's much easier to make a straight line that goes through both points.
