A lot of porn stars from that era have died early and in obscurity. Linda Lovelace died in her early 50s. Andrea True died in obscurity in her 60s in upstate NY. Both Linda Lovelace and Andrea True attended Catholic school. Virtually all of them regret having chosen that life, lured by the prospect of easy money.

Of all the evil that folks can do, being a porn star seems one of the more minor forms, lots of "respectable" folks have likely done worse.

The sex industry in general seems like a tough gig, from which few escape unscarred. I knew an attractive young woman just out of high school who became a stripper, and somehow avoided the usual traps of partying and cocaine use.

She was making close to $100,000 a year but quit anyway and took a job in the mall. She said she quit because she didn't like how the job was affecting her and the way she related to people, that it wasn't worth the money.
