I just ordered a Hawke Sport 3-9X40 AO for my R-9 - for $75, thought I'd give it a shot.
Good choice. I've had my Sport HD's 3-9X40 for 5years now (both AO and non AO) and both are still holding POI with no problems. Currently the non AO is back on the rammed HW80 with no plans on changing it any time soon.
Both of my R9's are mounted with the Hawke Pamorama EV 4-12x40. Another solid line of scopes by Hawke.
