You may be right, but it may just be that they are more enlightened. Or just different.

I'd venture to guess that there are tens of thousands of girls who have appeared in AV (adult video) films in Japan over the 23 years that I've been here. There are certain shopping arcades in Osaka where dozens of young men solicit female passersby to participate. The guys must make big money for the few they line up.

Then there is the thriving cabaret and "snack bar" industry where girls pour drinks and chat up patrons. It's a way to make money where good jobs for women are limited. These run the gamut from quite childish to very jaded. Personally, I do not think most Westerners would find them very interesting.
