J, I made the target in excel. I play with the thickness depending on reticle size. Print it on card stock and you're good to go.
Superimpose a mil or moa grid according to the type of adjustments you're using and it makes zeroing super easy. Like you, I use "big plus sign" targets scaled to reticle/distance/magnification to good effect.
