If I was on this scene and didn't at least shoot up in the air, or something.

Dallas Officers on Leave After Headquarters Gunfire

DALLAS (WFAA) -- The Dallas Police Department has placed 14 officers on routine administrative leave in the wake of Saturday's gunfire at police headquarters, according to a source.

It is standard procedure for any employee who has fired a weapon. Investigators were still taking statements from officers who were involved in the wild shootout shortly after midnight Friday.

The gunfire caused heavy damage to the police headquarters building and to several squad cars, although there were no casualties.

The suspected gunman, who was firing from an armored vehicle, is also believed to be responsible for leaving several bags of explosives around the building. He led police on a pursuit to the parking lot of a fast food restaurant in Hutchins, where he refused to surrender.

Identified by investigators and family members as James Boulware, the van's driver was shot and killed about four hours later by a police sniper. His armored vehicle was then destroyed by "planned detonations" in order to neutralize the danger from explosives believed to be in the van.

Police said they would release more information about their investigation into the incident at an unspecified time later Sunday.

If a man's gonna work in a bureaucracy, he needs to always have his eye out for an opening to take advantage of it.

Lord knows..... there's enough disadvantages.

You know, this has to be the most elaborate "suicide by cop" in history. All those rounds fired, explosives, armored vehicle, and he didn't even manage to wing someone? No one at all? Even a piss poor shot of Biblical proportion couldn't manage that. There's no way he was aiming to hit anything at all.

Not excusing the guy; at all. He was a nut job and rightfully ate a bullet. But, damn, NO ONE (not even Bob) is that bad a shot.

I had the same thought about suicide by cop. You would think at least the first shot would have hit someone. Thank god no one other than the dirt bag was killed.

Perhaps you missed that it was an armored vehicle?

She said she "misspoke". Nope, no apology. whistle

I'm sure she scored some points with Obama though.

I watched that clip and didn't take offense at it. She wasn't being a tool, just a ditz.

I say hold her accountable for what she was hired to do, look pretty.

Starts at about 2:15 with the armored bus.

Pretty much the standard re: cop accuracy..

The video, run many times on "COPS" of the two Ohio State Patrol officers emptying their handguns at two perps from a distance of about 20 feet and they hit NO ONE..gives a good indication of their, um, training.. smile

Plus, the poor unarmed soul in Chicago (IIRC) years ago who was reaching for his ID to give to the cops when they opened fire. 42 rounds fired by about 5 cops and only a couple hit the guy..

I have a few LEO customers and they admit they only practice enough to maintain certification (maybe they can't get ammo laugh laugh ) so it's a crap-shoot (PUN!) if they hit anyone..

laugh laugh

Apparently it wasn't 'armored' enough to prevent a .50 cal boolit from entering.. I mean, the guy bought it off Ebay - not exactly the place one goes to get a truly armored car..

Around here, if 14 patrol officers went out on admin leave on a single incident, they would probably have to fire up the Bat Signal and get Curdog to come handle calls.
