LGS has one they just took in trade, it has a crack on the foreend next to the flat side of the receiver, the bore is real dark and it has been drilled and tapped for scope mounts. There is a pop up button(assume cocking indicator) and do not know how the mounts could fit and not keep that from coming up unless they modified the mounts. He has it up for 299. Is it worth even that much.

You can't even buy a parts gun for that price. The mounts have a recessed area to allow for the cocking indicator. Tom

Not likely factory D&T unless it was a later manufacture. Did you get the serial number range?
Probably worth the money if you want a project to play with

I'd say no D/T on take down. If I were you, I'd wine and cry about it being a ruined rat, offer $250. Then cry some more about throwing good money away and go up to $275. If that didn't work, I'd go to $290 and beg for him to let me think I was getting a deal. That's if I were you. Now ME, for an old rat 250-3000, I'd slap down $300, tell him to keep the extra dollar, and run, Joe.

I would have the mount holes filled and replace the buttstock and forend if I were inclined to buy it . Are foreends and buttstocks readily available for something like this.

Last week I saw a barrel and receiver missing parts go that high on an auction. Jump on it.

Depends on the bore... If it's rusted out, is $299 a good price for a wall hanger? If the bore is shootable, $299 for a truck gun or range gun is quite good.

Now way of telling but I didn't see rust in the chamber, the bore light showed a lot of powder residue. D&T is what threw me off buying it . I might still. He re-opens on Tuesday , absolutely love the slim foreend

Rust and soot in a bore does not mean much. The chamber, yes. It is a 150 yard hunting rifle with out a scope anyway. One of the most accurate rifles I own (Bolt action) had the worst bore you could imagine. I am after something else right now or I would seriously consider it. If you want to see something really ugly, look at #491809295 on Gunbroker.com.

I called and he said their policy was no sales to some one whose state did not border NC. I told him I have an FFL but he still didn't want to ship it. I guess to much work for little profit margin. Don't blame him. Wasn't sure if I wanted a pig in the poke, but I would like a 250 TD. Since I just went back to work last night, was off 4 weeks with my eye surgery, I was going to have to sell some of my old Silver Dollars to buy it. I'll check back with him in a few days, Joe.

Must have spoken to the Owner, he can be difficult at times. If still interested try again in a few days.
