Not always. Elmer's loads in the .44 Special varied according to which kind of .44 Special cases he was loading. There were three kinds in those days:

� folded-head � roomiest of the three but also the weakest (long obsolete now, and relatively rare)

� balloon-head � less capacity than the folded-head but stronger, but not as strong as the solid-head (obsolete and likewise seldom seen now)

� solid-head � least roomy of the three but the strongest

Yes , I was refering the one he approached Remington with , for use in the Triple-Lock S&Ws used solid head cases. This is the load he mentions in a few of his books.

MKK41 - where do you get brass for that Herter's .401 these days?

I was wondering if any of you gentlemen have tried H108.
I bought some and was lead to believe it is the same as Accurate Arms #9.
I ran some over the screens and with my 4" 629 S&W I clocked the Lyman 429421 #2 alloy bullets weighing 251 grs. using 19.5 grs H108
at 1135 fps 10 ft. from the muzzle. Recoil is not for the faint of heart.
When I need a target load I use 8 grs Unique.
