The other thread reminded me to ask. Have you noticed any change in the fire ants in your area? Mine are gone. Not one to be found anywhere, and they have been everywhere for my entire life (54 years). They were here a month ago...now "poof". I hope it's permanent.

Not seeing many at all here in N.Texas, this year. Nice for a change!

And probably as a direct result, I'm seeing quite a few more Bobwhite quail chicks right now.

Almost none here this year. Glad of it!

Numbers down here due to drought. Never completely gone. But not as bad as in the past. Noticed since rains they have been making a bit of a comeback.

It was so god damn hot here the other day the ants never left the ground.

Second hatch of hoppers just showed up. First bunch must have died because all we have are dinks, which of course is fine.

Did A & M ever release those little flies that ate fire ants? I mean. Not that we need another invasive species here. Just curious???

They don't seem to be as thick as they were a few years ago.

That said, I managed to stand on a nest last night and got about a dozen stings for my carelessness.

Not near as many as in past years here, hope it stays that way. Amdro is expensive and I was going through one of those gallon sized bottles a month most years, have not used any so far this year.

This is what we are seeing too. Obviously we are likely only 30 miles apart though.

But drought drove them really deep. Many claimed they died. Yeah right, kin to the cockroach I'm sure in that department.

As soon as the rains started, they started resurfacing.

I could see in flooded areas that they would or could be gone for quite some time, but they'll be back, of that I'm sure.

Well, around Alvin, the crazy ants have really done a number on them.

Problem is, crazy ants love electronics, I mean really love 'em.

They ate our gate controllers, 2 breaker boxes, a shop computer, and a lot of truck electrics.
